Congressional Accountability Handouts

Congressional Accountability Handouts

Factsheets on all 435 members of the House of Representatives have been created to educate folks coming on J17 about what their so-called representatives in Congress have been up to.

The factsheets contain information about how each congressperson voted on key pieces of legislation, campaign contributions, and personal net worth. There will be a few copies of the factsheets for each congressperson at a table at J17 for people who plan to have meetings with congressional offices, but we encourage people to print out enough copies of their own representatives before they come.

There are two sides to these factsheets, one side that is unique to each congressperson, and the backside that is the same for each congressperson with information on the key legislation. (Note some photos are missing)

If you want to print out your own representatives’ information, click here and find him or here in the PDF file - it is organized by congressional district.

Some legislation that is currently in Congress that you could ask your congressperson to support.

I have not been unable to download any of these. I believe because of the size of the file. Is anyone else having problems downloading?

    • metformin

I can’t seem to download them either =/

      • TM_DC

Sorry, there is a not an easy system that we can set up now to allow people to download individual representatives’ sheets since we are pressed for time. So the file size is huge. If you shoot an email to representativemeetings@occupyyourcongress.info with your congressional district, I can send you your rep’s sheet individually.

https://github.com/sandal/j17-fact-sheets | Click through the folders to your state, click on the individual files for your representatives, click view raw and it should download a individual PDF. Hope this helps!

I’ve been getting the message that these files will hurt my computer…

          • http://blog.majesticseacreature.com Gregory Brown

            Hi Wendy,

Not sure why you’d be seeing that. Some systems probably do mark PDFs as potentially harmful, but unless there was a problem with the original document, I doubt you have anything to worry about.

I just ran these through a couple filters, nothing bad was introduced by me, at least :)

I assume that you probably just have aggressive virus protection that’s detecting a false positive.

It works: I was able to click on “sheets separated by state,” then click on my state (CA), then click on my representative (Beccerra) and download his pdf. Try it.

    Unfortunately, I cannot download either.

  • I8yourmom4lunch

Makes it easy to see why so many of them voted for the Bush Tax Cut extension. *sigh*

I understand you are pressed for time and money, but there must be a better way than a pdf. What are the plans for expanding this? This seems to me to be an incredibly important informational source!

  • Otcworks

Hi, I’m a programmer and while I’ve not been active in the Occupy protests myself, I’m supportive of the efforts folks are putting into them. I took the front sides of the fact sheets and processed them, organizing them into folders by state with an individual PDF per representative. The filenames list the rep names + districts.

Hope this helps, and good luck with this event!

(PS: Click through to the file you want and then click “view raw”, this should initiate a download for you)

    • TM_DC

Gregory, this is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!!!!

  • Ironica

I’ve been able to download it just fine… it’s not the greatest format, but I can see how there would be difficulties. It’d be nice if there was a ToC at the top that was linked to the cards.

The net worth of Congressmen when they began in office should also be listed to compare the difference to current worth.

    Hi bruce wayne

Last week you stood with millions of Americans to protect online freedom and innovation. Congress heard you, and delayed consideration of the PIPA and SOPA bills, which — if enacted — would censor the Web and impose harmful regulations on American businesses.

And we want to thank you, again, for your actions last week. We are humbled that so many of you rallied around what we believe is the most transformative invention in history.

    Until next time,
